Recently, there was a documentary about a popular modeling show that took a closer look at what allegedly happened behind the scenes, and much of what was revealed felt deeply inappropriate and uncomfortable. The program suggested that, far from being only a glamorous competition about fashion, photography, and talent, the show often relied on pressure, conflict, and humiliation to create dramatic moments for television. In many cases, situations appeared to be shaped or exaggerated in order to increase tension, spark arguments, or produce emotional reactions that would keep viewers watching and improve ratings.
This has also brought renewed attention to the way the modeling industry is often discussed in public. For years, people have passed around rumors about what modeling is supposedly like, what happens at auditions or photo shoots, and how models are expected to behave. Some of these stories may come from real concerns, but many are based on stereotypes, exaggerations, or outdated assumptions. Models are frequently portrayed as shallow, competitive, desperate for approval, or willing to tolerate anything for success, which is not only unfair but also damaging.
On top of that, internet scammers often take advantage of these stereotypes. They post fake casting calls, false agency offers, or misleading messages claiming that someone has been “discovered.” These scams may promise fame, professional photo shoots, or quick access to major opportunities, while actually trying to collect money, personal information, or inappropriate images. Because modeling is surrounded by so many myths, it can be easier for dishonest people to manipulate hopeful beginners. For that reason, it is important to question sensational claims, research agencies carefully, and remember that professional modeling should involve clear communication, consent, respect, and safe working conditions.
My daughter and I were discussing this recently, and together we came up with an idea that we’re really excited about: creating a video series that shares real stories from real people in the modeling and photography world. We would love for this series to include honest experiences from models and photographers of all kinds—past or present, professional or amateur, older or younger, experienced or just starting out. This is also open to anyone who is aspiring to get into modeling or photography and has a story, perspective, question, or experience they feel is worth sharing.
The goal is to create a space where people can talk about what the industry has meant to them, what they have learned, what inspired them, and what challenges they may have faced along the way. Your story can be positive, negative, funny, emotional, educational, or simply reflective. It could be about a memorable photo shoot, a great working relationship, a difficult experience, advice you wish someone had given you, or why you decided to pursue modeling or photography in the first place.
If you would like to be part of this project, please send me your story. You are welcome to record the story yourself and send it in, or we can meet up and do it as an interview. I want this to feel comfortable and authentic, so we can work together in whatever format makes the most sense for you.

Again, the story can be positive or negative. The important thing is that it is real.
